Types of Sessions
CU Expo 2011 is not a typical conference. We are providing unique opportunities for co-learning regarding social research and discussion around community-university partnerships. Our conference will include a variety of types of sessions aimed at stimulating participant engagement.
Skill building/learning workshops
Presenters will teach and discuss particular skills and techniques involved in doing community based research and/or community-university partnerships for social change. (90 minutes).
Roundtables
Roundtables will provide an opportunity for discussion on important themes and issues relevant to community university partnerships and collaborations. Roundtables will focus on ideas in development, evaluations and collective problem solving of identified challenges. (20 minute presentation + 10 minute Q&A).
Storytelling
Stories reflect the genuine and authentic experience of an individual or a community, which has importance and value. Community members and academics will share their experiences involved in community-university partnerships. (30 minutes).
Oral Presentations
Oral presentations will be focused on reports of research results, theory and inquiry related to the conference themes. We will hear from individuals as well as panel presentations from academics and community members.(20 minute presentation + 10 minute Q&A).
Poster Sessions
A dedicated venue is established for the display of posters illustrating research outcomes, describing ongoing projects, and elaborating the experience of a community-university partnership.
Other Creative Formats
Arts-based sessions will be held throughout the conference, including film, skits, dramatizations, poetry, art work, photo-voice and other expressive forms. (90 minutes).
