A Green CU Expo
Our theme bringing global perspectives to local action inspires our ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of our conference.
Waste Reduction

- Presenters are strongly encouraged not to bring hand-outs, since the majority end up in the waste bin. We encourage you to increase your networks by sharing contact information and connecting virtually to share information.
- You will receive a free tote bag to carry conference materials from session to session and to use later as a green alternative to plastic bags.
- A free re-useable water bottle! Water stations will be located throughout the conference so you can refill your bottle at any time. We're proud to announce that there will be no plastic water bottle waste generated by the conference.
- No flyers or printed advertisements will be placed in the CU Expo 2011 tote bags. Instead we are promoting our exhibitors and sponsors electronically, and through the judicious use of signs.
- Recycling stations will be present throughout the conference space.
Meals
- Since meat production is a major contributor to climate change, we'll reduce our impact by serving only vegetarian meals. If you wish to purchase other food, you'll be able to find local vendors nearby.
- Whenever possible, meals and snacks will not use plastic wrapping.
Transportation
- You will use the local public transportation system to visit community organizations and to participate in the "Night in the Park" community event.
- We expect that the majority of you will stay in residence at Wilfrid Laurier University, where you'll be able to walk to all the conference sessions.
Environmental Sustainability is one of the themes of CU Expo 2011. We are making every effort to minimize the environmental impact of our conference. One of our Steering Committee Members, Dr. Manuel Riemer, a professor of Community Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University, has guided the greening of CU Expo 2011.
